Toys for Tots — Huntsville & Madison County
Every kid in the Rocket City deserves something to open in December.
I work with a lot of military families here — folks PCSing in and out of Redstone Arsenal, folks who just got orders, folks starting over in a new town in the middle of the school year. So the Marine Toys for Tots Program hits close to home for me. It's run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, it's been going since 1947, and the whole idea is beautifully simple: collect new, unwrapped toys and get them to local kids whose families are having a tough year.
The Huntsville campaign is local. Toys collected here stay here. They go to children in Huntsville, Madison, Meridianville, and across Madison County — not into some national pool. That's why I point people to it instead of a dozen other things.
Three ways to help
- Donate a toy or a few dollars. New and unwrapped is the rule. Teenagers are almost always the hardest age group to cover, so sports gear, art supplies, headphones, and gift cards go a long way.
- Request toys for your family. If money is tight this year, there is no shame in asking. The local campaign site posts the application window and the requirements every fall.
- Volunteer or host a collection box. Sorting, counting, loading, distribution day — they need hands, and businesses can sign up to be a drop-off site.

Why this one
Real estate is a relationship business. I get to be part of some of the best days a family has — closing day, keys in hand, the first Christmas in a new house. Not every family in this county gets that kind of year. Toys for Tots is a low-drama, high-impact way to close that gap a little, and the Marines running it locally do it with almost no overhead.
